We start with Crusoe sharply avoiding the cannibals on the island. He changes everything he does in order to avoid them. Later on May 16th, Crusoe hears shots firing and believes it is a ship. He canoes out to the boat only to find is a wrecked ship. He recovers whatever he can from the wreck and goes back to the island. Later, Crusoe sees two natives of the island being attacked by the cannibals. he watches as one is ripped apart and the other survives and runs to Crusoe. He trust's Crusoe and Crusoe allows him to stay with him. Crusoe names him "Friday", the day Crusoe saves the native's life. Crusoe teaches him bits of English and teaches him how to cultivate as well, which Friday helps Crusoe do regularly. Crusoe begins to love Friday and learns that the cannibals come to the island every once in awhile. He also learns that he is somewhere near Trinidad. Crusoe then teaches Friday about religion, but struggles to teach him why evil exists in this world. Crusoe and Friday then make a boat that they will use to sail to Friday's native lands in December. Then, as Crusoe and Friday approach to go to the Cannibal's Island, the cannibals approach them. Crusoe and Friday use their weapons to fight off many of the Cannibals, who were attacking many prisoners. Friday is delighted as one of the prisoners is his own father. Crusoe and Friday carry the injured prisoners back to his place and tend to them there.
Crusoe changes slightly. He takes in a native that was being attacked and brings him in and becomes his friend. I feel happy for Crusoe becausehe finally found a companion. He has taght him how to speak English and together they fought off the cannibals to save more lives. The theme of these chapters is Friendship because we can see how Crusoe acts now that he has a friend on the island. I think he is much more open and joyous and isn't hating on life as much. The novel suggests that sometimes misery doesn't love company but rather a friend that can save them from situations. Crusoe was all alone on this island by himsefl and terrified by the cannibals and now he has a mate and I believe it has changed him. He starts to lvoe Friday and I believe they have a good thing going and it makes Crusoe happy. I hope that Crusoe and Friday can go to Friday's native land and Crusoe can either be happy there or be rescued there. He has gone through so much and really deserves something special. This reminds me of Lord of the Rings, where Frodo is sometimes unhappy and not loving life and whenever he's with Sam, hes full of life and gets his objectives straight and accomplishes more. In these chapters, i've learned that Crusoe is located somewhere near Trinidad. I've also learned that all Crusoe needed was a companion in Friday to be happy and i'm happy for him.
